Empty Bowl/Potters Market 2026
Empty Bowl (EB), Greater Lafayette Clay Guild’s 2026 community outreach event is a fundraiser for Lafayette Urban Ministry (LUM).
LUM, an organization supported by many Lafayette churches and volunteers for over 50 years, provides food, financial assistance, youth programs, and emergency housing for the homeless. Check out their mission statement and activities at https://www.lumserve.org/.
The Empty Bowl event will be held at Duncan Hall, 610 Ferry Street, on October 28, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Guests will be served a catered lunch from the Buttery Shelf and take home a handmade bowl of their choice.
Instructions for Potters Interested in Donating Bowls to the Cause:
As Empty Bowl (EB) is the single annual Guild event, it is expected that all Guild members will donate bowls and/or volunteer to assist with setting up the EB event and greeting EB patrons.
Deliver bowls for donation to LUM at 420 North 4th Street, Lafayette, on October 23, 26, or 27 from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM. Be sure to fill out the signup sheet.
Bowls should be at least 4” in diameter and at least 2” high. (Please note: lunch at EB will be served in bread bowls from the Buttery Shelf, not in the patron-selected bowl. Since many EB attendees will want to know the identity of the potters that made their chosen bowls, the potter’s name or icon etched on the bowl bottom or a label affixed to the bowl bottom is recommended but not mandated. Please do not put business cards inside the bowls. A location will be allotted for placement of business cards.)
To help defray glazing costs, the Guild has purchased glazes from Indiana Clay Company, 101 Main Street, Battle Ground for the use of EB potters. To take advantage of this opportunity, call owner Diana May (765-426-3873) to make an appointment. Indiana Clay is open Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday. You can fire your bowls elsewhere, but Diana can fire them for you at a very reasonable price. Don’t wait until the last minute. Firing pottery is not a quick or short process.
Direct all EB questions to EB coordinator Roberta Schonemann, [email protected].
